The Missouri State University residence life program contributes to the University’s recycling effort, encouraging campus awareness of and commitment to the Three R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. All residence halls are equipped to handle basic recycling of aluminum, glass, plastic, mixed paper and cardboard. Please join us in our effort to protect this planet and its valuable resources!
The recycling policies, found at the link to left, apply to the residence halls at Missouri State University. There are labeled bins for recycling located on each floor in all residence halls with the exception of Sunvilla, Dogwood, and Kentwood South, which have centrally located recycling on the first floor.
Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services hires Student Recycling Coordinators to assist with recycling in the residence halls. The Student Recycling Coordinator performs recycling services for the Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services facilities following established procedures and guidelines, is responsible for education and awareness regarding recycling for their assigned residence hall, and works with floor volunteers to handle the recycling processes of their assigned residence hall. If you are interested in becoming a Student Recycling Coordinator, please contact the Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services – Facilities and Operations office at 836-4987.
Since 2004, the residence halls have annually participated in a national recycling contest, called RecycleMania. During this 10 week contest among national university residence halls, each university gives a weekly report of how many pounds of recyclables have been collected to see which institution can collect the largest amount of recyclables, the least amount of trash, and have the highest recycling rate. The past results of RecycleMania are posted at http://www.recyclemaniacs.org/results.asp. For further information on this contest, watch for signage in the halls or go to http://www.recyclemaniacs.org/. New to this year's competition is the "Waste Minimization Contest". For further information, see Waste Minimization.
